Review of Vega Hotel Sorong/Vega Prime Hotel & Convention

After an extended stay in simple accommodation in Raja Ampat, we splurged a little and stayed in a four-star hotel in Sorong.

Location of Vega Hotel Sorong

The hotel is a short 500m walk from Sorong Airport.

We stayed there on the day we arrived by fast boat from Waisai, Raja Ampat, and flew to Jakarta the next morning, so it was a very convenient location.

There is an Indomaret next door.

Rooms at Vega Hotel Sorong

The rooms at Vega Hotel Sorong are a little old, but they are well decorated and clean.

We initially booked a windowless twin room for Rp 633 000 (including breakfast), but when we complained about the noisy air conditioning, Mario, the manager, was very helpful and upgraded us to a room with a window.

The upgraded room (room 522) was equipped with a fridge and safe.

This is the room before the upgrade.

There is a telephone, lamp and notepad by the bedside, but the electrical sockets were only for the lamp.

There is a TV, desk and chair.
There is an electrical plug at the desk.

Bottled drinking water, electric kettle and tea set.

There was coffee with sugar and jasmine tea.
The jasmine tea was not good, not tasty.

Noisy air conditioning.

Slippers are provided, but they are too small for my husband who is from England and they are also a bit smelly.

Room service and massages are available.

Vega Hotel Sorong bathroom

The bathrooms are clean and large enough.

There were glasses and toiletries on the washbasin.

The shower is a rain shower and the water pressure in the shower in the first room (before the upgrade) was not good, but the shower in the room after the upgrade was perfect.

The water is hot.
Shampoo, shower gel and soap are available.

There is no bathtub.

Toilet paper and foot mats are provided in the bathroom.

Amenities provided at the washbasin.

Cotton swabs, shower cap and toothpaste set.

Amenities in the shower room.

Internet at Vega Hotel Sorong

Free Wifi is provided.
There is a router in the room and at first the internet was very fast.

But it rained before the evening and after that the hotel WiFi was down.
The WiFi remained unavailable for the entire stay.

Dinner at Vega Hotel Sorong

Dinner was an all-you-can-eat buffet for Rp 150,000 per person.

The photo above was taken the next morning and shows the indoor restaurant area as well as a poolside area with grilled seafood and other food items.

There is a bar area and towers of beer are available for sale.

Indoor restaurant area.

Snapper, prawns, grilled squid and noodles in chicken broth.

The indoor area has nasi goreng, coconut curry, desserts and salads.

All of the food is delicious and I ate too much.
The dinner buffet appears to be served until 8.30pm.

There was also live music by the pool.

Breakfast at Vega Hotel Sorong

The breakfast buffet was the highlight of our stay.

It is served from 6am in the restaurant on the ground floor.

It is varied and tasty.

Porridge corner.
Chicken soup with various toppings.

Dessert, bread and pastry corner.

Nasi goreng and fried noodles.

Drinks include coffee and tea, as well as a juice and iced tea section.

Salads and fruit.

Black sticky rice porridge and coconut milk.
This was my favourite.

Chicken-based porridge and black sticky rice coconut milk.

Chicken coconut curry and fried fish.
The pickles are good but a bit spicy.
