Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort in Biak, Indonesia
Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort is a beachfront resort hotel.
It is run by an American citizen-Indonesian couple.
Location of Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort
It is located on Nirmala Beach, 7 km west of Biak Airport. It is approximately 4 km from Biak town centre.
There are no supermarkets or restaurants nearby, so you will need a car or a motorcycle to get around. A scooter rental service is available at the hotel for Rp 150 000 per day.
Nirmala Beach does not have much of a sandy beach area, but there are plastic floats from which to easily enter the sea.
On weekends at sunset, the beach is crowded with locals. Motorbike parking costs Rp 5,000 per vehicle.
This is a large hotel with a beautiful wooden construction inside, but it was quite old and in need of repairs here and there. It's currently being upgraded
Rooms at Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort
We stayed in a double room with en-suite bathroom and a sea view.
The room was very spacious and clean, but a little dated. The bed mattress is hard and very comfortable, the air conditioning is new and works well, but all the other furniture was a little ragged.
The floors are wooden and look beautiful, but they were cracked everywhere. They were soft and fluffy when we walked on them. I was hesitant to walk barefoot.
Bottled drinking water, tissue paper, toilet paper, bath towels, soap and toothbrush sets were provided. A water server was available in the corridor. There was an electric kettle next to the front desk where coffee and tea were available at all times.
Lighting in the rooms was limited and the room was dark at night.
Bathroom at Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort
The bathrooms are very spacious, but old as you can guess. There was no bathtub, and the shower was a bit rusty, but we managed to use it. There was also hot water.
There was no partition between the toilet and shower. A bucket was convenient for rinsing swimwear after swimming.
Breakfast at Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort
The price included breakfast, which was served from 6am. Nasi goreng, baked eggs and pickled vegetables.
The variety was limited, but the taste was good.
Service at Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort
Staff were friendly and helpful. They seemed to understand a little English. The owners speak perfect English and are very charming.
There is a transfer service to and from the airport, but not free of charge. We travelled from the airport using Maxim, a car dispatch app and it cost us Rp 30,000.
At the moment, Grab does not work on Biak Island. Maxim has only just been introduced, so depending on the time of day, we could not find a driver, or even if we did, we had to wait at least 10 minutes for one to arrive.
There was no restaurant in the hotel, but there was a dedicated chef and meals could be ordered. There was no written menu yet, so we had to order verbally from the front desk staff. We found the prices for meals to be reasonable.
WiFi at Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort
Free Wifi is provided, but the connection in the room was sometimes unstable for one of our devices; the connection was the fastest in front of the front desk on the ground floor.
Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort dive centre
There is a dive centre on the hotel grounds. It is run by the American owner and offers diving, snorkelling and sightseeing tours of the island. We took a half-day snorkelling tour to another beach on the island. Rp 1.5 million for two people.
Price of Nirmala Beach Hotel and Resort
Can be booked online. We stayed at the hotel in January 2025. We negotiated directly with the hotel for Rp 550,000 including breakfast.
The entire hotel is in need of major renovation and accommodation prices will probably be higher once everything has been renewed.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Very good sleep, friendly staff and a lovely view of the sea!
